Project Engineer - Surface Impoundments (Monongah, WV)
Title: Project Engineer (Surface/Impoundments) – Monongah, WV. Reports to: Manager of Engineering
Provide Engineering support for preparation plants and slurry impoundments, which include defining project specifications, bid documents and overall project management primarily associated with surface facilities such as ponds, pipelines, upstream/downstream construction, road construction, and slurry capping. Develop and prepare information necessary for permit preparation of the aforementioned projects.
Coordinate the designing and installation of facilities and equipment such as slurry impoundments, coarse refuse piles, pumps, pipelines, and access roads. Work with draftsman to develop construction plans. Prepare budgets and track costs, requisitions, and purchase order status. Interact with contractors from the bidding process through to project completion, including monitoring of contractor performance and safety compliance. Provide plans for preparation and certification of environmental permits for all projects. Work with mine management and operations in planning and defining new capital projects, developing cost estimates, purchasing engineering and construction services, and managing construction contracts to execute the work.
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mining Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer registration or FE is preferred. Requires an understanding of mine refuse disposal operations, analytical skills, and knowledge of environmental and safety regulations. Position requires 5 to 7 years of related experience, as well as good communication, supervisory, and project management skills. Requires travel into surface construction sites and preparation plants. Computer skills need to include Word, Excel and AutoCAD.
